Summary
Julius Evola: The Hermetic Tradition
The author investigates the appearance of Hermeticism in antiquity, medieval Christianity and the Renaissance, as well as various modern hermetic currents. It deals with all the most important hermetic symbols with examples from alchemy, mineralogy, botany and astronomy and presents a comprehensive overview of hermeticism and its echoes in the sciences and arts from antiquity to modern times, comparing ancient truths with contemporary views. The work contains a number of original quotations from many ancient and medieval Christian philosophers and artists, as well as today's thinkers. The Italian philosopher Julius Evola builds on the work of Guenon and Hamvas. He influenced many of his contemporaries, the most famous of whom is the esthetician Benedetto Croce.
