Summary
Franco Farinelli: Geography an introduction to models of the world
Map and globe are not only models of describing the world but, as the word "geography" essentially means, ways of writing the world, active factors in its construction. Farinelli analyzes the models of urbanization from antiquity to the present day, the development of the landscape concept and the emergence of territorial states, and puts them in connection with the two aforementioned models of geographic description. This results in an opposition between two models, two ways of observing the world and relating to it - cartographic and global - which lasts throughout the modern era and has a decisive influence on the present-day human geography.
