Summary
Ivica Đikić: Circus Columbia
Circus Columbia is a story about Mostar and its inhabitants during the war and post-war 90s of the last century. In this terrible and dark recycling, the city appears as a place of almost metaphysical sadness and collective misfortune, and its inhabitants as a continuous conglomerate of personal tragedies. Being a victim of a world "that is not theirs", but in which they are forced to live, the characters mostly try a salutary retreat to a more desirable environment, only to return again, after years and years of suffering, attracted by some inner "siren's call", as a crying irrational impulse to lessen the pain. The other stories contain three slightly longer independent stories: Green Castle; Try to sleep, please; As if nothing happened. The common thread of these stories is again the war with its direct and indirect consequences.
