Red Horse (Konarmija, 1926) by Isak Babel is not a novel. It is a collection of cycled novellas that were created as separate prose fragments, published in different newspapers and magazines, but were finally published as a book with a thoughtful arrangement of novelistic texts. A large number of novellas are dated, but not by the date when the author wrote them, but by the date and locality of the event to which the respective novella refers; the time and place of a certain event during the campaign of Budjoni's cavalry army against Pilsudski's Poland.
