Summary

Ivica Đikić: Circus Columbia and other stories

Ivica Đikić was born in 1977 in Tomislavgrad, Bosnia and Herzegovina. He started publishing in newspapers at the age of sixteen. He wrote in the daily newspaper Slobodna Dalmacija (Split, Croatia), and since the end of 1996 he has been constantly writing in the political and satirical weekly Feral Tribune from Split, which has won several of the world's most prestigious journalistic awards. Since 2001, he has been the deputy editor-in-chief of that newspaper.
He published the short novel Cirkus Columbia (Biblioteka Feral Tribune, Split, 2003), which received the Meša Selimović literary award for the best novel written in Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro. Circus Columbia tells the story of the human and collective fractures that the last Balkan war produced in the province of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In 2004, he published the book Domovinski obrat - political biography of Stipe Mesić, published by VBZ.

Circus Columbia The debut novel of this young author is a story about Mostar and its inhabitants during the war and post-war 90s of the last century. In this terrible and dark recycling, the city appears as a place of almost metaphysical sadness and collective misfortune, and its inhabitants as a continuous conglomerate of personal tragedies.

Druge priče sadrže tri nešto duže samostalne pripovijetke: Zeleni dvorac; Try to sleep, please; As if nothing happened. The common thread of these stories is again the war with its direct and indirect consequences.
