Grey Zane

Summary

Zane Grey: The Black Legion

A dark, passionate and extremely exciting western novel by Zane Grey, which is considered one of his most psychologically profound works. The plot takes us to the wilderness of Idaho in the 1860s, in the golden age of the gold rush, where laws do not apply and destiny is shaped by the fastest gunslingers.

The story follows the young and stubborn Joan Randle, who, after an argument with her fiance Jim Cleve, is ambushed by the infamous and cruel gang of outlaws known as "The Border Legion". The gang is led by the charismatic, cold-blooded and dangerous Jack Kells (aka "Killer Kells"). Instead of killing her, Kells is mesmerized by her bravery and takes her prisoner inside a hidden mountain camp. Driven by feelings of guilt, jealousy and revenge, her wounded fiancé Jim decides to join the gang himself under a false name in order to stay close to Joan. In a harsh environment of robbers and murderers, a dangerous game of survival, moral transformation and redemption begins, in which the boundaries between law and chaos are completely erased.
