An excellent, dynamic and suspenseful western novel by Zane Grey, which successfully combines classic adventure with elements of family mystery and ethical dilemmas. The plot follows Trueman Rock, a daring young cowboy and hardened gunslinger who returns to his hometown of Wagontongue after six years on the run and on the run from the law.
His return to his hometown soon loses the contours of a peaceful vacation. Rock learns that the harsh Sunset Pass and the surrounding area are controlled by the mysterious, powerful and isolated Preston family. While trying to uncover a dark secret hidden by the eldest son Ash Preston - suspected of mass theft and illegal slaughter of other people's cattle - the situation is further complicated by Rock's unexpected love for Ash's beautiful sister Thiry. Torn between the laws of the Wild West, honor and feelings for the girl, Rock will have to enter the infamous gorge itself to bring justice to light.
