Stella Gibbons: Robert Poste's Child Robert Poste's Child (1932) is one of the most beloved comic novels of all time. When the prudent, refined Flora Poste loses both her parents at the age of nineteen, she decides that she has no choice but to go to her relatives in the heart of Sussex. At a farm aptly named Cold Comfort, he meets the haunted Starkadders: cousin Judith, haunted by an unspoken sin; Amos, who preaches fire and damnation; their sons, lustful Seth and desperate Reuben; Elfine, child of nature; and crazy old aunt Ada Doom, who hasn't left her room for twenty years. But Flora loves nothing more than organizing other people. Armed with common sense and stubbornness, she decides to put all the family members in order.

About the author of the novel Robert Poste's Child:

Stella Gibbons (1902 – 1989) is an English writer, journalist and poet. Robertab Poste's novel Child is the first she wrote and is still considered one of the most significant works of English literature of the last century. Since 1932, it has been regularly on sale and won many new readers, and a film and a television series were made based on it. Although she later wrote and published more than twenty titles, some of which were sequels to this successful book, none of them managed to achieve even the approximate popularity of this masterpiece. The novel was translated from English by Mirna Čubranić.
