Summary
Ernesto Che Guevara: Diary of a Motorcyclist
The travelogues of Ernesto Che Guevara de la Serna, transcribed by Che's personal archivist in Havana, reveal his aspirations, highs and lows during the colorful adventures he went through on his exploratory journey across South America. Ernesto started writing these diaries when in December 1951 he set out on a long desired and planned trip with his friend Alberto Granada. The two started from Buenos Aires through the Atlantic coast of Argentina, the Pampas and the Andes, and when they reached Chile, they continued north to Peru and Colombia and finally reached Caracas. Later, Ernesto retold these experiences in the form of stories detailing life in Chile at the time, presenting some details from his life and cultural heritage with a storytelling skill that would be further developed in his later works. Under the influence of the newly discovered regions of South America, deep and unexpected changes in Che Guevara's personality take place before the eyes of the reader, the very ones that created a new, independent Latin American spirit from him, which made him the forerunner of the new history of that part of America.
