Summary
John Steinbeck: East of Paradise
The novel East of Paradise, by the American writer John Steinbeck, is a complex and powerful saga about the complicated relationship between two families, the Trescos and the Hamiltons. A sharp and harsh depiction of the life circumstances of the main characters, residents of the Salinas Valley area in California, is the basis for breaking the biblical mythological background through the destinies of the protagonists (the conflict between the brothers Cain and Abel, as the story of the sin of Adam and Eve and their fall). The novel was made into a film and a television series (1981), and the 1955 film version of East of Paradise was nominated for an Oscar in four categories, winning Best Supporting Actress. There are also plans for n
film adaptations, as well as a series announced by Netflix.
The writer's most ambitious undertaking, which the author himself called a masterpiece, was rated by critics as his most significant literary achievement.
