Mirjana Matić-Halle: Luke, but not an apostle

At the time it was originally published (1974), the novel Luke, but not an apostle was one of the most extensive novels in recent Croatian literature. Literary criticism cut it down: a huge (and superfluous) novel / a novel, but without a reason. The author understood the message of the criticism and for the new edition she thoroughly shortened and rearranged this collaged novel about the relationship between artist and government, man and woman, and the question of one's own freedom. Since this new version was not printed during the author's lifetime, Matica's edition is the first edition of the novel Luke, but not an apostle in a new, final version.
