This novel, unique in Russian literature in many respects, is characterized by an abundance of humor and philosophical depth. Due to censorship and allusions to Stalin's dictatorship, this superb work by Mikhail Bulgakov was not published in its entirety until almost three decades after the writer's death. Today, its value as a jewel of world literature is unquestionable.
