Summary
Franka Mrduljaš-Karić: Shaved Venus
"'Shaved Venus' is a novel that was shortlisted (among the three best manuscripts) for the VBZ award for the best unpublished novel in 2003. More than 70 manuscripts were submitted to the said competition. Shaved Venus is only outwardly an erotic novel. It is actually a humorous, layered social story about the fate of a woman and her vagina, told in three levels - the language of the woman, the language of her vagina. This story is filled with a healthy optimism, from sexual taboos to everyday scruples. Shaved Venus can only sound like a rough realism, the truth about people as they are. The novel takes place in Zagreb, but most of the story takes place between 2002 and 2003. There are three main characters and about twenty secondary ones, and about thirty incidental ones." (Nenad Rizvanović, Interliber, 2003) "The award almost eluded Shaved Venus, which is said to be the successful Croatian answer to Eva Ensler's Vagina monologues. (...) Franka Mrduljaš-Karić is signed as the author, which the Degen Law Office says is a pseudonym..." (Internet news on the occasion of Interliber, 2003) (GG)
