Torquato Tasso: Liberated Jerusalem
Translated by Gjorgjo Ivanković. This baroque epic in 20 cantos was created in 1575. One is a basic plot with numerous episodes. The theme is the First Crusade, with which Tasso emphasizes the need to unite Christians. The epic shows the fight of Christian knights around Jerusalem with representatives of the Muslim world. The conflicting sides represent two worlds: Christian and Muslim, and are a symbol of the conflict between good and evil.
