Pjesnik u New Yorku

Lorca Federico Garcia

Summary

Federico Garcia Lorca: Poet in New York

Bilingual Croatian-Spanish edition of the lyrical collection of the legendary Spanish poet, which belongs to the transitional period of his artistic work (translated by Andreja Jakuš, edited by Dimitrije Savić). The collection contains poems that Lorca wrote during his stay in America, between 1929 and 1930, and they were considered by the author himself to be one of his most significant literary achievements. More than any other Lorca songbook, the author's intimate world is grafted into this one, and it has a surrealistic or at least emphatically avant-garde content. From this book, Lorca creates his most iconic poetic confession, using as the main means of expression a great negative symbol - the city of New York. This city-world is inhabited by beings who suffer, and their suffering is a link to other types of work, such as the poet's own pain and the exposure of the many shortcomings of human solidarity. The lack of love and friendship in the big city will make it, in the poet's eyes, a city of death... The edition is supplemented with extensive critical writings that shed light on the history of the creation of the texts as well as their layered literary-linguistic structure.
