Summary
Rita Monaldi, Francesco Sorti: Shakespeare's Dante
The new literary venture of the writer couple Monaldi & Sorti brings us a sensation: a never-before-seen, lost play by William Shakespeare. Shakespeare's Dante, a work lost for centuries about Dante's mysterious life, reveals to us the mystery of who Dante was, as well as the secret of how one of the greatest works of world literature - Divine Comedy - was written.
Shakespeare's Dante exposes the Florentine poet's life shrouded in secrets and mysticism, his connections with the powerful and rulers, the indescribable crimes of the Inquisition and bankers who are still playing with the destinies of individuals and society today. Young Dante is faced with great challenges in life - the loss and new finding of love, a mysterious illness that takes him to the edge of another world, and the discovery of family secrets that will irreversibly change his life.
The book Shakespeare's Dante miraculously connects two writers without whom our culture is unimaginable, and several miracles unfold before us - a tense story about the life of one genius written by the hand of another genius, the discovery of the buried past of the Dark Ages, but above all a marvelous linguistic and stylistic dedication to the work of two great poets.
I started reading this book with the usual prejudices with which I read other novels. about Dante. Already after the first seventy pages my ego was thwarted. I found myself studying the book and taking notes! I was troubled by that feeling. Dominicans listened to the confessions of the garrison in German, mass was held in German. That is why I find it very convincing that Dante approached the German world. I wish I had written some of the pages that Monaldi & Sorti wrote! - Giuseppe Indizio
Among the hundreds of texts about Dante Alighieri, published on the occasion of the seven hundredth anniversary of his death, this one by Monaldi and Sorti seems to me the most original and fascinating because of the truly fresh and holy view with which he presents the life and works of this greatest poet. - Pupi Avati
An absolutely magical book, with an abundance of historical data, reflection and creativity. A very nice combination of history and imagination. You can be sure that what you read is true and at the same time the fruit of imagination and love for culture. - Roberta Ascarelli
This book is a rare powerful, clever and refined weaving of narrative and scientific criticism, literature and speculation, with a poetic dimension worthy of Dante himself. The dramatization relies not only on historical documents but also on the hermeneutic procedure of Dante the author. I very much share these hermeneutical views. I am amazed by the precision and authority of Monaldi and Sorti. - Mira Mocan
