Summary
Mikhail Aleksandrovich Sholokhov: Silent Don I - IV
This monumental work by Mikhail Sholokhov depicts Russian society in the broad historical panorama of the First World War, as well as in the time of the decisive events of the October Revolution.
Tihi Don combines a wealth of genres: descriptions of war actions are accompanied by the poetics of male-female relationships, social accents and psychological dynamics. It is a work that, with its multi-layered nature, constantly eludes attempts at one-sided classifications and evaluations. Sholohov was also awarded the Nobel Prize for this novel in 1965.
