Summary
Vladimir Kopicl: Art and Perdition
The collection of essays by Vladimir Kopicl, under the challenging title *Art and Perdition*, brings representative examples of his recent essay reflection on the problems of contemporary culture in the light of the analysis of European and our current practices in the field of cultural policy, as well as the most impressive phenomena that left an indelible mark on the domestic and world scene. Equally - with an effort to make his texts analytical and comprehensible, polemical and based on expert argumentation, erudite and authentic - in this book, Kopicl devotes a series of essays to the question of the possibilities and scope of the classical concept of art in today's global environment, and equally deals with diverse forms of contemporary artistic practice: from film and theater to performance, and from women's writing to psychedelia. Of course, there are also more extensive literary studies that Kopicl wrote on special occasions during the past years - in turn, about top writers crowned with the highest awards on the literary and cultural scene, and who were rarely the subject of extensive analyzes by literary interpreters. This is precisely why Kopicl's essays on the poetry of Raša Livada, the stories and novels of Slobodan Tišma, the criticism of Taras Kermauner, and the poetry and essays of Slobodan Zubanović, Oto Fenjveši, Vasa Pavković and Nina Živančević are of special value - texts that occupy the last place in this book, but are certainly not at the back in terms of their importance and scope.
