Summary
Patrick Seriot: Structure and Totality
Intellectual Origins of Structuralism in Central and Eastern Europe
In the twenties, in that post-war time which abounds in so many revolutions in art, in science or in politics, in that time when it was finished with trenches and slaughters, and when everyone felt, as G. Apollinaire wrote, "tired of that old world", R. Jakobson and N. Trubecka announced a new organization of knowledge for those who wanted to know something about new times in science. Moreover, they claimed that this new knowledge had a local origin: "Russian science". This book is dedicated to examining their claims.
