Summary
Jeanette Varberg: Vikings: plunder, fire and sword
They plundered and traded, conquered and discovered lands all over the then known world. They developed a wide network of trade routes and settlements along rivers and coasts, and left behind traces that are still part of our common history.
The book "VIKINGS. "Loot, Fire and Sword" is a comprehensive history of the Viking Age, when Norse warriors set sail in search of gold, honor and ultimately - land. They became powerful warriors and traders in a world where they simultaneously waged a violent struggle for power. Great battles, political power struggles, intrigues and conquests are different aspects of the story of Viking domination at sea. The Vikings encountered a world divided into kingdoms, empires and caliphates, where Christianity and Islam were powerful religions in expansion, but at the center of their religious universe was Odin. The meeting of different religions and worldviews is part of the story of the time that took the Vikings from present-day Norrkoping to Byzantium and Africa. od Rusije na istoku do Kanade na zapadu.
