A car is freedom! This technological invention, which arrived in Serbia in 1903, made life easier and more beautiful for many people, but also contributed to numerous social changes. The book about 120 years of cars and motoring in Serbia is therefore an important contribution to the political, social and cultural history of Serbia, but also a book that takes us by car through the Kingdom of Serbia, the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, socialism. Yugoslavia and modern Serbia, through the processes of their modernization, as well as crises and wars, show all the complexity, but also all the richness of such a topic. Using a wide variety of historical sources - archival materials, newspaper articles, photographs, car parts, advertisements, invitations, posters, films and TV series, popular music, memories of contemporaries..., Marko Miljković united a technological, social, ideological, political, aesthetic, sports, hedonistic approach to cars and motoring, following their development from steam to electric cars, from people's vehicles to limousines of kings and leaders, from vehicles that served for the emancipation of women to vehicles which played a significant role in the wars. On this journey through time, Marko Miljković, with the help of different drivers, drove us along rutted, but also modern roads, filling petrol sometimes at the first Belgrade pumps, and sometimes, during the sanctions, from plastic bottles, stopping at the first traffic lights, but also in modern garages, persistently looking for a free parking space. It can be concluded that the history of the development of the automobile, more precisely the automobile, is well chosen to serve as a much broader and richer study of all important aspects of our recent history. Dr. Marko Miljković's monograph certainly has all the characteristics of an original scientific contribution, bearing in mind the rich heuristic basis, excellent problem-based organization of the text (chapters with subchapters), well-chosen methodology. It is written in clear, interesting and precise language, but in no way to the detriment of the scientific and professional side of the monograph.
