Summary
Francis Violich: Mot prema Dalmatia
A bridge to Dalmatia, the search for the meaning of a place is the life work of Francis Violich (1911 - 2005), an American of Croatian origin, a former distinguished professor of urbanism at the American University in Berkeley, who stayed in Dalmatia, the homeland of his grandparents, on several occasions. Comparing it to the North American cities where his family settled, Violich explores the urban landscape and structure of Dalmatian cities and towns in an original way. His method of urban reading of places step by step helps us to understand distinctive urban identities through direct experience, intuition, subjective feelings that evoke a certain space and building.
