Summary
Martin Jakšić: Dictionary of Slavonic, Baranja and Srijem dialects
Dictionary of Slavonic, Baranja and Srijem dialects by Martin Jakšić (b. 1931) is a unique work when it comes to the Slavonic dialect and its subdialects. Unlike all other dictionaries published so far, including manuscript ones, which at best more or less exhaustively list the words of individual local dialects, Jakšić's Dictionary covers all of Slavonia, Baranja and Srijem, and partly also Podravina. Not only Old Štokavian languages with all their variants (Ikavian, Ekavian, Ikavian-Ekavian, Ikavian-Ekavian; Štakavian, Škakavian) but also New Štokavian (Ekavian) are included, as well as not only rural but also urban. Of course, the dictionary treasure dominates precisely from the speech that we can label as Old-Kavian-rural. All in all, the Dictionary includes about 80,000 entries and over 360,000 words (some on the left, some on the right - explanatory - side of the lexicographic article). A work of such scope is not known in the overall Croatian dialect lexicography.
