Summary

Mirjana Lukić: Underground Architecture

Architect Mirjana Lukić's book studies the problems of underground architecture and urbanism. It was created during the work on the urban-architectural solution of the underground railway station "Vuk spomenik", the first large underground building in Belgrade, Mirjana Lukić explored a large area of underground construction and participated in the Seventh World Conference on "Inner Cities of the Future" in Montreal in 1997, where she showed and presented Serbia and Belgrade for the first time, including Serbian creativity in world trends.

The book is based on the research of underground architecture, from historical examples - Egyptian temples, catacombs of Rome and Paris, cisterns of Byzantine Constantinople, to contemporary large underground cities in the world. Legends and artistic visions of the underworld, from Dante's Inferno, the Labyrinth, the Tree of Life and Leonardo's Renaissance city, are woven into the symbols, psychology and spiritual life of today's people and civilization.

The development of modern world cities that created underground architecture is shown: Paris, London, Montreal and Japanese cities.

The book analyzes the artistic perception of space, as well as the basics of legal regulation, protection from danger and saving energy and time in underground.

Belgrade from the Roman period to the present is shown, with an overview of the implemented and planned operations, to which the author gave her practical contribution, through the blueprint of the underground station Vukov spomenik and the architectural part of the underground building.
