Summary
Željka Čorak: Way of the Cross from the Kingdom of Sutjeska
Kraljeva Sutjeska is one of the most beautiful Franciscan monasteries in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Built in the 14th century, it has been demolished and rebuilt countless times. Today, it houses, among other things, a rich library and archive, as well as an extremely important museum collection of valuable art. Among the most beautiful works of art in the monastery is the not so long ago restored painting cycle The Way of the Cross, the work of an anonymous, common, probably Polish, painter. The historical-artistic presentation of this work points to its exceptional artistic value, marked by the Rococo tradition on the border between stylistic and folk features. At the same time, it is also a work of strong, almost poetic messages in which the spirit of the times can be felt. Željka Čorak's studio is equipped like bibliophile editions and is dedicated to that indestructible Croatian being in Bosnia, who has been caring for the overall cultural heritage for centuries.
