Summary
Leonardo Da Vinci: Volumes I-II
It is assumed that Leonardo da Vinci painted a total of twenty-five paintings during his lifetime, of which only twelve have been preserved - enough to ensure his status as one of the greatest painters in the history of mankind. But, Leonardo was much more than a painter - he was what we call a Renaissance personality after him today. Namely, there is no area of the human spirit in which it has not been reflected by researching, observing, reflecting on the most diverse phenomena of art, science, invention, nature and everyday life. He drew and wrote down all his conclusions, discoveries, insights and ideas in notebooks that eventually numbered thirty thousand pages. Of this huge manuscript legacy, no more than a quarter has reached us. Finally, in this edition, for the first time in an integral form, they are also available to local readers. In Leonardo's notebooks there is everything - from aphorisms, witticisms, riddles, fables, funny stories and witty omens, to a detailed analysis of certain problems of optics, anatomy, zoology, acoustics, weaponry, fortification, urban planning, architecture, hydraulics, physiology, astronomy, philosophy, painting... He writes about the flight of birds, winds, shadows, light at dusk and dawn, flying machines, bronze casting for monuments, the function of the liver, bile and intestines, scars on trees, the origin of rivers, a step counter, summoning spirits, aerial perspective or whether it is better to paint in society or not... and in every Leonardo's record there is a reflection of his unique poetic vision of the world. Da Vinci's Notebooks resemble a magical and inexhaustible box of miracles - in which the incredible genius of Leonardo is displayed.
