Summary
Shimon bar Yochai: The Zohar I
The Book of Shining
Volume I
The Zohar, or Sefer ha 'Zohar (The Book of Shining), is without any doubt the main work of classical Kabbalah. It is not a book in the usual sense of the word, but rather a collection of tracts of different volumes, whose form is nevertheless a coherent whole. The Zohar is a commentary on the Torah, incorporating numerous smaller tractates, added in the margins, or collected in an appendix that accompanies the chapters. A number of these tracts were placed in a special section, which was called Zohar Hadash (New Zohar), and the third section consists of tracts called Tikunej Zohar (Prepared Zohar). (...) The special value of this work is that it has a learned redaction by a connoisseur of the Hebrew language and a deep commitment to the metaphysics, hermeticism and mysticism of the Kabbalah as such, and the Zohar in particular.
