One of the fundamental works of world literature that primarily deals with the problem of family and marriage. The main character of the novel is the Petrograd lady Anna Karenina, married to Alexei Aleksandrovich Karenin, a high-ranking civil servant. Ana falls in love with a young and good-looking officer, Count Aleksei Vvronsky. Her conflict between family and love is resolved by suicide. This plot is accompanied by parallel events - the seemingly happy marriage of noblemen Levin and Kitty, as well as the marriage of Ana's brother Steve Oblomski and his wife Dolly. The novel is an exceptional example of Russian realism with distinct social and psychological motivation of the characters.
