Summary
Željko Ivanjek: Brk and sparrow
Journalist of the daily "Jutro", Predrag Vrabac, receives the task of writing a book about Tito's aging general, Ivan Mirković Brk, a Skoje resident and partisan, head of the military secret service of the former state. A seemingly easy job turns into a conflict between generals and journalists, that is, between the former and the present world. Their views differ on famous events - the assassination of Kardelj, the dismissal of Ranković, the Croatian Spring and others - which the general witnessed, and the journalist perceives as formative. In order to break away from Brk's interpretation of the past and history, Predrag Vrabac uses books and interviews of other participants in the same events, as well as reports of various commissions. Their dialogue and relationship creates a new character of Josip Broz Tito and the image of a country lost in blood, but also an image of Lipa naša and its current media circus. The novel asks the question: have different state-political systems given birth to typical representatives or only exceptions?
