Summary
Fernando Pessoa: Heteronyms
Selected prose
Essays, notes, manifestos, dialogues, letters, passages, drafts
Fernando Pessoa, born in Lisbon in 1888, first existed for a long time as a clerk in a dark office. And then, on March 8, 1914, this above all idealistic poet, one of the greatest of the 20th century, notices that a certain doppelgänger named Alberto Kaeiro, a "pagan" teacher, followed by two students, who calls himself a "sensationist", emerges in him. Then there is, like a transparent sheet of copy paper in front of the poet's face, a certain Bernardo Suarez, who keeps a diary of his "restlessness" in gloomy prose, while at the same time Pessoa explores all kinds of paths, from eroticism to esotericism.
