Summary
Homer: The Iliad
The Iliad is an epic song, presumably composed in the 8th century AD, somewhere in the Greek settlements scattered along the shores of Asia Minor; there was the city of Ilius (Troy). As the ancient Greeks believed, the poet of the Iliad, Homer, also lived there. The Iliad, like many other heroic epic poems, deals with the events of the Trojan War, which according to ancient Greek traditions lasted ten years.
