Miroslav Krleža Fund Award
It has been a long time since we have heard the rhythmic and euphonic possibilities of our language expressed in such a rich, polyphonic, expertly articulated way... The beautifully arranged volume restores confidence in the publishing ambitions, and the anthological value of the texts raises the criteria for publication because there is no doubt that it is one of the achievements of the decade.
Tonko Maroević, Slobodna Dalmacija
Nikica Petrak (Duga Resa, 1939), poet, translator and essayist, according to critics, belongs to the narrow circle of the most important contemporary Croatian poets, and critics place his collection Ispadade iz history at the very top of the best poetry books published in the last twenty years. This collection was created as a poetic response to the war situation, a response devoid of propagandistic verses and simple truths written by simple poetic means. In the explanation of the Miroslav Krleža Fund Award, it is stated that Petrak "chooses the position of a subject who is possessed by a strong feeling of 'falling out of history', a sensitive observer who is able to observe the complexity of events, and even express his anger at the destruction of humanity, but who is strongly marked by the realization of his own impotence to actively change something important..."
