Mein Kampf

Tabori George

Summary

George Tabori: Mein Kampf

The fictional starting point of George Tabori's farce "Mein Kampf" is an episode from Hitler's life, well-known, albeit banal: a double attempt (in 1907 and 1908) to pass the entrance exam at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, and the unsuspecting painter's subsequent stay in Vienna's shelters for the homeless. Tabori does not play with the essential correction of this episode, taken from Hitler's "Mein Kampf", but simply quotes from that book, turns it into a paradoxical, funny one. At the same time, it depicts in the background the "world of security" of Vienna from the beginning of the 20th century, in which no one could think that one hysterical bum could seize power and shape the world according to his own, insane desires.
