Summary
Erich Maria Remarque: Nothing new in the West
During the First World War, Paul Bäumer and his peers were recruited into the German army. Young and full of enthusiasm become soldiers. But despite what they've learned, they break down after the first bombardment of the trenches. And no matter how terrible the war may be, Paul will stick firmly to one principle year after year: to fight against the hatred that senselessly forces young people, peers, but in different uniforms, to fight against each other - only if he manages to survive the war.
"Erich Maria Remarque is a great world writer. He is undoubtedly a first-class master, a man who can adapt language to his will. Whether he writes about people or inanimate nature, his style is sensitive, unwavering and confident."
