Summary
Borisav Stanković: Unclean Blood
The novel "IMPURE BLOOD" by writer Borisav Stanković was published in 1910. The action takes place in Stanković's native Vranje, during his lifetime - at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. Over the years, Vranje has changed socially and economically, all because of political changes. Namely, southern Serbia was liberated in 1876. The plot of the novel revolves around the beautiful girl Sofka. Sofka was a member of a once rich merchant family that was now becoming poorer every day. Although at first glance the novel can be classified as a "character novel", since the social changes of that time in Vranje are depicted, the novel "Impure Blood" is certainly also a social novel. The writer continues the realist tradition, so most of the characteristics of the novel belong to realism (narrator, psychological and social motivation of the characters, linear course of action, criticism of society, real descriptions), although we also notice some modernist features. However, we cannot say that the work only penetrates the modern, but also completely adopts some of the procedures of that period - which is clearly seen, for example, in how it narrates through Sofka's character, and thus carries out a complete analysis of the character.
