Summary
Michael Crichton: Prey
Jack Forman is a top expert dealing with a new type of computer program that simulates the behavior of living things, especially those that live in communities, such as herds, flocks, swarms and packs. However, due to very suspicious circumstances, he is currently out of work, so he devotes all his free time, which he now has in abundance, to his family, while his wife does a very demanding job in the mysterious Xymos laboratory in the middle of the desert. Is the stress from work so great that his wife is behaving strangely, or is the reason for such behavior romantic in nature? Soon, Jack will be involved against his will in an experiment that threatens to turn into a disaster, and the life of his family will become directly threatened.
Soon after arriving at a remote research center in Nevada, he will discover how Xymos has developed a self-replicating nanotechnology that functions on the basis of his programs. This new intelligent device, composed of miniature particles, functions as a swarm, is programmed to be a predator, evolves hour by hour and becomes more and more dangerous, and its prey is humans.
