Vjenceslav Novak: Podgorka
Vjenceslav Novak (Senj, September 11, 1859 – Zagreb, September 20, 1905), Croatian novelist, novelist, publicist, music critic and pedagogue. He was born in an immigrant Czech family, where his mother was Senjanka from an immigrant Bavarian family. He was the most respected writer of Croatian realism, and he was called the Croatian Balzac. He completed primary and secondary school in Senj and Gospić. After completing his preparatory studies in Zagreb, he worked for some time as a teacher in Senj.
