Summary
Fyodor Mihajlovič Dostoevsky: Stories from the "Writer's Diary"
Reading F.M. Dostoevsky's prose, we are always amazed by the power of inspiration of this genius master of words, regardless of whether it was his world-famous novels or, as is the case here, lesser-known works of shorter duration - intriguing stories from the "Writer's Diary". Dostoevsky started writing "Writer's Diary" as a column, and soon started a magazine of the same name in which he was the sole author and in which he published his "nineteenth-century blogs": critical reviews, analyzes of important events, autobiographical sketches, essays, polemics... and short stories. Although in these texts he offers a fascinating view of incomparable depth and breadth on the life and politics of his time, the stories collected here are the most valuable literary part of "The Writer's Diary" and certainly the most interesting for the majority of the contemporary readership. Among them, it is particularly worth highlighting the stories imbued with "spiritual fiction", which left an exceptional mark on world literature and influenced generations of Russian writers from Bulgakov to Brodsky.
And all this in the usual excellent translation by Zlatko Crnković...
