Kosinski Jerzy

Summary

Jerzy Kosinski: Presence Parking attendant, ski instructor, psychologist-counselor, cinema operator, university lecturer, art photographer, truck driver, film actor, president of the American section of P.E.N... and, of course, above all, an exceptional writer - these are some of the jobs, from the long list, that the author of this book was engaged in. Jerzy Kosinski amply compensated for the numerous adversities that followed him in his native Poland after he defected to the USA: starting, as it were, from scratch, he managed to realize the magical "American dream" - wealth and fame, the "dream of dreams" of every immigrant and native American... Nevertheless, apart from his turbulent life, Kosinski will certainly be remembered most for his great books, among which "Presence" shines, probably, with the greatest brilliance. This sharp satire of American society - both the empty political elites and the common people who can be forced to do anything via television - is still very relevant today. It's a story about a mentally retarded gardener whose banal sentences about watering and growing plants are interpreted and quoted by "sensible" politicians as profound metaphorical wisdom and they already see him as a future president... Although the book and the film based on the book have won numerous awards, and although there is great happiness in "The Colorful Shop" due to the publication of such a quality work, we would say that readers of this rarely intelligent and witty book will benefit the most.
