Summary

Svetislav Basara: Recapitulation

Although a meaningful continuation of the novel Kontraendorphin, awarded with the NIN award, Recapitulation is not just "one of" Basara's books, which contains everything that determines and defines us as his readers: reading pleasure and a return to the other side of causality. social logic and positivist everyday life, the vulgar reality of the local time (and space), political mire and ideological perversion, but a paradigmatic work in which we read the basics and the best poetic values of his prose.
Opposite this novel and its ideological context, that is, in its depth, stands the dominant psychological structure of society as a phylogenetically transmitted heritage, so etched in the unconscious that it constitutes the very structure of the psyche and the subtle characterization of all characters individually. Especially in episodes where a caricatured image of a national stereotype or characteristic forms of collective consciousness is revealed through them. The recapitulation is a black-humored perspective and an open critique full of subtle sarcasm, an instrument of thought and knowledge, the flip side of contemporary mythology. Mihail Epštajn says: "In ancient times, the space between word and image was filled ritually, and in recent times - totalitarian - on that track, Recapitulation was born - as an idea of duration in a world that has forgotten its existence, its initial meaning and authenticity.
