Summary
Garcia Gabriel Marquez: See you in August
Garcia Márquez wrote the novel ten years before his death, and oppressed by an illness that affected his mind, at the time of its creation he doubted whether he wanted to publish it. His sons decided that the passage of time will bring the final verdict on the work, and when they read it again after many years, they were amazed by the way of writing and the beauty of the story itself, and therefore they made the decision to publish the novel. See you in August tells the story of a woman on the verge of fifty who goes to a Caribbean island every August 16 to lay gladioli on her mother's grave and on that occasion indulges in short love affairs. Her otherwise happy family life remains intact, as she goes on the trip alone, and her husband and children know nothing of her breaking the bounds of convention. This novel is an extraordinary depiction of femininity, sexuality and desire and is the perfect "grand finale" of Gabriel García Márquez's oeuvre.
