In the time novels, Meg and Polly ask some big questions. We ask these same questions many times growing up, and then we usually forget them because we have so much to do. I write the books I write because I still ask myself these questions. One physicist said that the big question is whether we are alone in the universe or not. When I go outside at night and look at the stars, billions of stars, I think that there must be other constellations that have solar systems with planets where intelligent beings live. I don't believe we are alone, and that opens up new questions. Looking at the night sky, I am not only looking at space but also at time, because I am looking at a star seven light years away, a star seventy light years away, seven hundred light years...
