After many years academician Goran Filip and associate professor Dr. Barbara Buršić Giudici published the Linguistic Atlas of Istria, a continuation of the Linguistic Atlas of Istria and Kvarner project. This extremely valuable linguistic work presents the lexical material that was collected from 1994 to 2012 at 18 points, 15 in Istro-Franco, two in Istro-Croatian and one in Istro-Slovene in three speaking areas, Italian, Croatian and Slovenian. Respondents answered 1,898 questions from the questionnaire divided into 14 semantic groups. Since survey questions cover, more or less, all life situations, weather conditions, customs, body, senses, family, clothing, food and drink, animal and plant life..., the Atlas not only contributes to the preservation of Istrian linguistic treasures, but is also a valuable source for the study of Istrian cultural and spiritual heritage. Numerous students, graduates, masters and doctoral students participated in the compilation of the Istrian language mosaic, whose works were processed and confirmed on the ground by the author duo. Linguists, as well as other curious and lovers of language, will certainly enjoy reading more than a thousand pages of this special work that testifies to the salvation of an idiom.
