Adame, gdje si?

Stamać Truda

Summary

Truda Stamać: Adam, where are you?

The excellent translator Truda Stamać (1942) is an even better prose writer. The first collection of short stories under the title Kapi was published by Truda Stamać back in 1998 in the University Press Liber, then the second only in 2003 by the Mlinarec-Plavić Publishing House. It's a moving story entitled A Dog's Life - actually an interesting chronicle that the subtitle "A Year with Staša" describes most faithfully. She continued to publish her stories, short prose and lyrical writings, mostly as cycles, in the magazines: Kolo, Dubrovnik, Republika, etc., from the 90s, but due to her translation obligations and regularly inexorable deadlines, her own editions were "on hold". It is a great pity that her literature was covered by translation. That is why today when her name is mentioned, everyone will mention her excellent translations in unison, but hardly anyone will know the title of one of her prose books. Of course, she left us in debt with her many translations of German philosophers and classics, and especially with her author's anthology Language and World. Austrian poets of the second half of the twentieth century, for which in 2004 she received, among others, the Iso Velikanović award.
