One of his grandfathers was an associate of the Gestapo, the other Ustaša, and his father was Ante Pavelić's bodyguard. Surrounded by myths about the "glorious NDH" and the "Bleiburg tragedy", Pilsel grew up in a world where identity and loyalty were unquestionable. As a young man, he led a double life: on weekdays he dealt with human rights issues and the fight against the dictatorship in Argentina, and on weekends, in the circle of his family, he entered a completely different world burdened by the legacy of fascism. When a friend, an Argentinian priest, pointed out this contradiction to him, he began a process of questioning that lasted for years and led to this book. The "Argentine Novel" is an intimate, autobiographical confession in which the author speaks unreservedly about childhood, religion, family and inherited ideology, but also about personal delusions, losses and the slow, uncertain exit from an identity that seemed like destiny. Pilsel writes without pathos and the need for justification, with warmth and precision, about how life can change - not suddenly, but through internal fractures that no one sees.
