In 1920, the literary magazine "Misao" opened its doors wide to the poems of the young Desanka Maksimović, which talked about nature, love and unspoken longings in an unusually direct and comprehensible way. Today, in the context of Serbian literature of the 20th century, the poetic work of Desanka Maksimović occupies an undisputed place.

Desanka Maksimović was also a poet of patriotic feelings, philosophical reflections, persistent thinking and an ethos of freedom, kindness, courage and loyalty. Her undoubtedly great creative energy and authentic lyrical sensitivity are in many ways unique in our literature, which is why any selection from her poetry is incomplete, one-sided and unsuitable for capturing the richness and fullness of her poetic expression, which Stevan Raičković described as a muted lyrical current that follows its task, Ivan V. Lalić as "the work of a poet who was at all times authentic in that he was true to himself, his nature and the nature of his singing", whose simple work wisdom rarely touches directly.
