Summary

Višnja Machiedo: Hidden Paths

The book Hidden Paths is an excellent essay written by essayist, novelist, anthologist, literary critic and translator Višnja Machiedo. French literary culture, from the troubadours to the romantics to the surrealists and contemporary French writers, as well as the classics of European literature (Goethe, V. Woolf, Kundera), served the author as a stimulus and a template for thinking about important anthropological issues of human existence. The literary and cultural context of the author's essay writing is joined by the inspirations of the ancient heritage (Plato, Aristotle, Cicero) as well as more modern currents of philosophical thought (E.B. De Condillac, A. Schopenhauer, F. Nietzsche and others). A series of thoughts, dilemmas and reflections are interwoven through literary-cultural and philosophical observations and partly through autobiographical records and bring answers to the questions of existence in the literary, cultural and philosophical heritage. In four essays, The Path of Sleep, The Path of Insomnia, The Path of Aging and The Path of Friendship, the author conveys a series of thoughts, dilemmas and reflections and hopes that Faith in the power of intellectual, literary, philosophical words can be a cure for the dilemmas of every individual. The book is Croatian and European in its originality and is intended for the general intellectual public.
