Summary
Viktor Ivančić: Point at u
The Šakić case: the anatomy of a scandal.
Third revised edition.
From the author's preface in 2022: "If Croatian nationalism has held up so well for decades, if it still warms hearts, burns cheeks, sharpens knives and traces the political antics of the crowded masses with unchanged intensity, then I guess the protest can also be of archival origin. You blow the dust off an old document and defy today's spirit of the times. Almost a quarter of a century after its first edition, under the blows of the years, this book has probably lost something, but not its theme. This, of course, does not say anything about its quality. Rather, it is an indicator of a certain frozenness of the political community, which, after the fulfillment of the dream of "its own state", is so movingly trying to change the actors, scenery and stage props, and by no means the content of the drama, which it pathetically calls social life. That is why the decision to re-release an archaeological remnant of the resistance into public circulation does not have museum pretensions, which, again, should not be understood as a happy circumstance: instead of why now, the question of why anytime seems more appropriate."
