Summary
Ante Tomić: Majestic Poskokovi
Four hundred and fifty kilometers downhill from Poskokova Draga is the white city of Zagreb. And in it Tomislav Poskok, the richest man in the country, whose name stands above the entrance of hundreds of shops, the owner of dairies, butchers, slaughterhouses, faucets and countless hectares of agricultural goods. Unlike his rural relatives, this Poskok materially and socially evolved and built a tycoon empire networked with the highest political, church and economic instances in the country. But when Tomislav and his wife die in a suspicious ship explosion, the Poskoks' entire empire rests on their thin son Zdeslav, a typical child of a local Balkan tycoon. Zdeslav has always had only one ambition, and that is a thousand beautiful models and singers in one day! And now he must fight against a whole combination of politics, tabloids, crime and cardinals if he wants to save the empire he inherited and solve the mystery of his parents' deaths. He is helped in this by a group of strange characters, special people who may lack everything else, but that's why their heart is in the right place.
"Magnificent Jumps is a novel in which the author skilfully intertwines elements of a thriller, a social novel, a comedy and a love plot... It is undoubtedly Tomić's most mature prose work in which he ironizes and exposes to the point of absurdity the dark side of social reality and the predatory mentality that gave birth to it. And all this garnished with sparkling humor and irony that will ease the reader's way through this urban 'gušt'."
