A novel of a good girl by the Danish storyteller Karina Michaelis. - It describes the love and devotion of a daughter, who went with her father, the captain of a merchant ship, on a journey to Alexandria with the sole purpose of making sure of her father's marital fidelity and to appease her mother with her letters. But during one of her father's absences from the ship, something happens to her, which turns her life's drama into a painful tragedy. From that moment on, the entire novel becomes a desperate cry of a harmless and good girl, who sacrificed everything she had, both her soul and her body, as a sacrifice to her love for her father and mother.
